Thank you for visiting the Fitch Banjos website. Unlike other banjos on
the market, each Fitch banjo is unique. I do not focus on producing a "certain sound" that one would associate
with a Fitch banjo ,instead, I focus on producing a great sounding and playing banjo built with the finest materials
and hardware available at a price that is more than fair to the buyer. While I do offer 3 models in a standard
configuration, I leave the endless possibilities up to the buyer. Color choices, binding choices, inlay choices, and rim and
tone ring choices are available to the buyer. I feel that if you are going to spend your hard earned money on a new banjo,
it should be one that is built to your specific specifications as long as it is up to the standards of the builder. Take a
look at my Photo Gallery and you will see a great variety of banjos pictured. In my many years of building banjos, I
have found a variety of rims , tone rings, and woods that produce some incredible sounding banjos. Some people like a deep,
bassy banjo while others prefer power and crispness. My personal preference is a banjo with a great 4th string, sweet and bell-like
tone up the neck, and volume that will cut a microphone and hold its own in a jam and most of my banjos reflect these
preferences. I have been playing the banjo since the mid 1970's and have played in several bluegrass bands through the years.
While I am not the greatest player around, I have developed an ear for what makes a good sounding banjo and what makes
a great sounding one. I know what it takes to cut a microphone on stage and, I know what it takes to be heard in an outdoor
jam. I also know how to shape a neck for a "player". One that is fast and comfortable and easy to play. On a "players"
neck, you should be able to park a capo on the string nut to where it is out of the way when playing in the open position
. The highest frets need to be easy to reach as well. While these details may seem small, they are often overlooked by other
builders and, can be very important to you as you progress with your playing. In conclusion, when you pick up a Fitch
banjo, I want it to leave you with the impression that it is a banjo with superb workmanship, tone, and playability
that will last a life-time.
